IMPACT OF IDENTITY STYLES ON RELIGIOUS ORIENTATIONS IN ADOLESCENTS
Abstract
The current study was planned to find out the impact of identity styles on religious orientations among adolescents. A sample of adolescents (N = 718) from different schools and colleges of Sargodha, Jehlum, and Rawalpindi districts was collected through the purposive sampling technique. Identity style inventory (Berzonsky et al., 2013), and Religious Orientation Scale (Khan, et al., 2016) were used to measure the constructs of identity styles and religious orientation respectively in adolescents. Data was analyzed by SPSS 22 version. Pearson correlation was computed to have an insight into relationship patterns among variables. Multiple regression analysis revealed informational identity style as a significant predictor of extrinsic religious orientation but non-significant predictor of intrinsic religious orientation, normative identity style was found significant predictor of intrinsic whereas non-significant predictor of extrinsic religious orientation. Diffuse-Avoidant identity style yielded significant prediction for extrinsic and intrinsic religious orientation. Limitations, suggestions, and implications of the study have been discussed.
